A silkscreen poster advertising a Beethoven concert series in New York, this print uses bold flat color to announce the program in a way meant to be read from a street or subway platform. It was produced under the Federal Art Project, part of the Works Progress Administration, which employed artists during the Depression to make posters for concerts, theater, and public health campaigns. The program's poster unit in New York helped popularize silkscreen as an affordable method for mass-produced art. The back of the sheet carries a December 1937 date stamp, which places it in the final months of the project's New York poster output.
