Wednesday evening, October 14, 1936, at 8:30 is the start of the second series of the Composers Forum-Laboratory, a New York discussion program where composers and listeners examined new music together. The Federal Music Project, part of the Works Progress Administration's Federal One program, sponsored the series and put unemployed musicians to work during the Depression. The poster was printed in silkscreen, a method the WPA's New York art projects used to produce inexpensive, eye-catching announcements for public events. Its clean, flat color and bold lettering show how the agency's design units turned civic programs into widely visible art.
