The title "Lover's Lane," set in Central Park, makes this card's theme of courtship plain, and its subjects list couples and courtship as well. Strohmeyer & Wyman, a New York publisher, issued it in 1896 for sale through Underwood & Underwood, a large stereograph distributor with sales offices in New York, London, and Toronto. The title is printed on the back in six languages, a sign that the publisher expected these cards to find buyers well beyond New York. Viewed through a hand stereoscope at home, a card like this turned a walk in the park into a small three-dimensional scene.
