The Randolph Street Bridge was one of the crowded escape routes during the Great Chicago Fire of October 1871, when residents crossed the Chicago River as flames spread through the city. This hand-colored lithograph, published by Currier & Ives in New York sometime between 1872 and 1874, shows that chaotic scene in bright color. It was one of many prints the firm issued about the disaster, which destroyed much of the city's central business district within two days.
