Along the east end of the Palace of Transportation at the 1904 Louisiana Purchase Exposition in St. Louis, a group of novel pleasure launches draws the eye to the fairground's waterways. The fair, held in Forest Park to mark the centennial of the Louisiana Purchase, drew millions of visitors eager to see new machines and technology from around the world. Underwood & Underwood, a New York firm that produced stereo cards in large numbers, issued this view as number 32 in its series, meant to be seen through a stereoscope for a sense of depth.
