Few posters from wartime Austria combine an exhibition announcement with a charitable appeal, and this 1918 lithograph by V. Th. Slama does both. Its German title promises an exhibition of art and figurines, and the record ties it to fundraising for charitable organizations in Austria during the last year of the First World War. The angel imagery reflects how wartime posters often used religious and consoling figures to ask for donations. Color lithography was then the standard method for mass-produced posters, so the piece also shows the commercial art of its day.
