Few views on this board look down on a Japanese industrial site during an attack, and this one shows the Hitachi Aircraft Company works at Tachikawa, a city on the western edge of Tokyo. In 1945, American B-29 bombers struck aircraft plants and military installations across the Tokyo region, and the Tachikawa area, home to major army air facilities, was among the targets. The high vantage point shows how the bombing reached the factory grounds, making the print a record of wartime damage to an industrial center.
