Madam Pozet, identified on the negative sleeve as the wife of the Peruvian ambassador, is the subject here, photographed by the National Photo Company of Washington, D.C. The firm worked in the capital in the early twentieth century, making portraits of diplomats, officials and their families. The title comes from unverified data supplied with the negative, so the sitter's identity should be treated with some caution. The 6 1/2 by 8 1/2 inch glass negative, a 1947 gift from Herbert A. French, shows streaks and blemishes from the natural deterioration of its original coatings.
