Madam Wroblewski is the named sitter, and the negative is dated December 26, 1923, the day after Christmas, which places the sitting in the holiday week of that year. The National Photo Company, a Washington, D.C. commercial studio active in the early twentieth century, made many glass negatives like this one, and its collection later came to the Library of Congress. Streaks and blemishes on the glass come from natural deterioration of the original coating, so the image looks softer than it would on fresh stock. The title was written by the company and remains unverified, so treat the name as a working identification.
