Little is confirmed about the woman in this glass negative, which the National Photo Company labeled "Madam Prochnik," Austria, December 26, 1923. The company's own notes supply that title, but it has not been independently verified, so treat it as a working identification. The date falls in the hard years after World War I, when Austria was contending with severe inflation and shortages. The plate also shows streaks and blemishes from natural deterioration of its original coating, which affects how the image reads today.
