The portrait shows Edward Anthony, Henry T. Anthony and V.M. Wilcox together, and it was made by Louis Alman of New York. It ran as the frontispiece of *Anthony's Photographic Bulletin* in the January 1881 issue, volume 12. Edward Anthony was a leading New York photographic publisher and supplier, so a portrait at the front of his journal signaled the magazine's close ties to the trade.
