Catalogued as a Minuteman memorial, possibly on the Green in Lexington, Massachusetts, this glass plate records a monument to the militia who gathered there on April 19, 1775, the opening morning of the American Revolutionary War. The Detroit Publishing Company sent photographers across the country in the years around 1900 to 1915, and Revolutionary War sites drew steady interest from tourists and patriotic societies of that era. The upper section of the 5 by 7 inch negative is cracked and has been repaired with tape, a reminder of how fragile these plates became after decades in storage.
