Victor Herbert's comic opera *The Fortune Teller* is the subject of this 1936 silkscreen poster, which promotes a production tied to Cincinnati, Ohio. The poster advertises the show's best-known number, the "Gypsy Love Song," and its bright color and bold lettering were typical of the Federal theater Project's publicity during the Depression. The Federal theater Project, a branch of the Works Progress Administration, staged inexpensive productions across the country to employ theater workers, and its posters were often made by artists in the federal art programs using silkscreen. Herbert had written the opera in 1898, and by the 1930s his operettas were a familiar part of American stage life.
