A 1936 silkscreen poster from the Federal Music Project advertises Johann Strauss's comic opera *Die Fledermaus* as staged in San Bernardino, California, showing how far New Deal arts programs reached beyond the big cities. Strauss composed the work in 1874, and its tale of masked balls and mistaken identities has remained a staple of the stage. The Federal Music Project, part of the Works Progress Administration, employed musicians and singers and offered inexpensive productions to local audiences. WPA poster units used silkscreen to print such announcements in bold color and in quantity.
