Hague Bay, a sheltered inlet on the western shore of Lake George in New York's Adirondack foothills, is recorded here across three glass negatives meant to be joined into one wide view. The Detroit Publishing Company made many scenic photographs like this in the early 1900s to promote travel, and its panoramas were valued for showing the long reaches of water and wooded shoreline. By then Lake George was a popular summer resort, reached by steamboat and rail, and such views helped draw visitors to its hotels. The 8 by 10 inch plates offer a clear record of the lake as it appeared before the 20th century's later changes.
