Two glass negatives record the Silver Bay Hotel and its grounds on Lake George in New York, taken as the left and right sections of a three-part panorama whose center section is not in the collection. The Detroit Publishing Company, which worked from the 1890s into the 1920s, made views like this to promote resorts and rail travel, and Lake George was a fashionable summer destination in the Northeast at the time. Wide panoramas of this kind take in the hotel grounds together with the lake and surrounding mountains, so the scene works as a promotional landscape as much as a record of a single building.
