Issued by Spain's Ministry of State in Madrid during the Civil War, this black-and-white offset lithograph presents the conflict as a fight against international fascism rather than a purely domestic struggle. Its subject tags point to Muslims, a reference to the Moroccan regulars who crossed the Strait of Gibraltar in 1936 to fight for General Francisco Franco's Nationalist rebels, troops that Republican propaganda often portrayed as foreign invaders. The poster reflects the Republican government's effort to hold the country and win support abroad, and it shows how both sides used images of foreign allies to rally opinion.
