Respetad la propiedad de los pequeños campesinos" ("Respect the property of the small farmers") is the slogan on this 1936 color lithograph, issued in Madrid by the Ministry of Public Instruction under the heading "Por el orden republicano" ("For republican order"). It appeared in the first months of the Spanish Civil War, when land seizures and local committees were reshaping the countryside. The text asks citizens to respect the Republic's authority and leave modest holdings alone. Posters like this were a major tool of the Republican side, used to shape public conduct and rally support across a divided country. Its appeal to small owners shows the government trying to reassure rural proprietors while the war was still unfolding.
