The slogan, "Por el orden Republicano," or "For Republican order," asks viewers to leave alone the shops and workshops of ordinary owners. The poster was issued by the Dirección General de Bellas Artes under the Ministry of Public Instruction and Fine Arts, and it dates to the Spanish Civil War, probably its early months. In that period, revolutionary committees and militia groups in Republican territory often seized or collectivized businesses. The grocery stores and factories named in its record reflect that concern, and the government used posters like this one to restore order behind its own lines.
