Issued in the name of the Frente Popular de Madrid, this poster pays tribute to the foreign volunteers who fought for the Spanish Republic. The International Brigades were formed in 1936, drawing men from dozens of countries who answered the Republic's call against the Nationalist rising led by Francisco Franco. Their part in the defense of Madrid that November made them powerful symbols for the city's left-wing coalition, and posters like this one carried that message into the streets. It is worth noticing how the poster presents international solidarity as a cause shared across national borders.
