Dedicated on June 28, 1941, Will Rogers Field in Oklahoma City took its name from the humorist and aviation enthusiast who died in a plane crash near Point Barrow, Alaska, in 1935. The Federal Art Project produced this silkscreen poster under the Works Progress Administration, which commissioned many such prints to publicize civic events and public works during the Depression. Silkscreen favored flat areas of color and simplified shapes, which made posters inexpensive to print in quantity and easy to read from a distance.
