A stylized floral pattern climbs across a lattice ground here, with vines weaving between the blooms and giving the surface a steady, rhythmic movement. Designs like this were drawn for woven or printed cloth, where a repeat could be cut and laid out across yards of fabric. Pattern makers of the period often arranged naturalistic flowers into simplified shapes, so the plants read as ornament rather than botanical study. Look at how the lattice organizes the open spaces and how the vines turn back on themselves, which is where much of the design's visual energy lies.
