The Katahdin is the subject of this set of three nearly identical 8 x 10 inch glass dry plate negatives, which the Detroit Publishing Company numbered and catalogued around 1901. The small differences in the numbers inscribed on each plate suggest the photographer made several exposures of the same view. The Detroit Publishing Company produced large numbers of American views for commercial sale, and its catalogues give a useful record of how the company organized its work. The negatives were given to the State Historical Society of Colorado in 1949, which preserved them after they left the company's hands.
