Three nearly identical glass negatives record the U.S.S. Katahdin, a Navy warship that the record classes as a battleship. The Detroit Publishing Company, which sold views of American ships and places to tourists and collectors, likely made these around the turn of the twentieth century. The catalog dating places them between 1896 and 1901, when the Navy was modernizing its fleet with steel-hulled vessels. The set came to the Library of Congress as a 1949 gift from the State Historical Society of Colorado.
