A wide panorama of the Baltimore waterfront, dated 1904, shows the harbor side of the city in the wake of the Great Baltimore Fire, which broke out on February 7 of that year. The blaze burned for roughly thirty hours and destroyed about 1,500 buildings in the commercial core, while frozen hydrants and low water pressure hampered firefighters. Companies from Washington, Philadelphia, New York and other cities came to help. The sweep of the view makes the scale of the loss easy to grasp.
