Two flag bearers are the subject of this wartime sheet music cover, shown on a field the morning after fighting. Drawn by E.B. Bensell and lithographed by T. Sinclair in Philadelphia around 1864, it reflects a music trade that used battlefield imagery to sell songs to families at home. Regimental flags drew enemy fire, so bearers were among the most likely to fall, and the casualty theme here reflects that danger. The gallery files it under Gettysburg, which points to the 1863 battle, though the record itself does not name the site.
