Most cards in this set show scenery or everyday scenes, but this one turns to a formal dance floor, where a couple moves through the waltz in a ballroom. The card was issued by H.C. White Co. of North Bennington, Vermont, around 1902, and it was made as a stereograph, meant to be viewed through a stereoscope so the two nearly identical images merged into one scene with depth. Parlor stereoscopes were a common form of home entertainment at the turn of the century, and cards like this one brought fashionable social life, including dancing, to viewers who could not attend such events themselves.
