Anna Edson Taylor, the schoolteacher named in the title, is the reason this card stands out from other Niagara views. In October 1901 she became the first person known to survive a trip over the falls in a barrel, a feat she attempted on her 63rd birthday. This stereograph, issued by the Niagara Falls firm Griffith & Griffith, was a tourist souvenir meant to be viewed through a stereoscope, and it shows the moment before her descent. Her stunt drew crowds and newspaper attention, and it remains one of the more unusual episodes in the falls' history.
