Mrs. Taylor is shown in her barrel just before her plunge over Niagara Falls. Annie Edson Taylor, a 63-year-old former teacher, rode a wooden barrel over the Horseshoe Falls on October 24, 1901, and became the first person known to survive such a trip. Stereo cards like this one, made as pairs for viewing through a stereoscope, were popular souvenirs of the falls in the early 1900s, and publishers sold scenes of daredevil stunts alongside views of the cataract. Some details on the card are unverified, so it is best read as a record of the public fascination the falls drew at the time.
