Rushing water above the drop is the subject of this stereograph card, which shows the rapids that pick up speed on the Niagara River just before the falls at Niagara Falls, New York. Meadville, Pennsylvania's Standard Scenic Company issued the card around 1903, when stereoscope views were a popular way for visitors to bring home three-dimensional scenes of famous places. The card's subject headings list tourists, a reminder that the rapids drew crowds eager to watch the river gather force before it plunged over the cliff.
