Prospect Point sits on the American side of the Niagara River, where visitors have long looked across the gorge at the falls and the Canadian shore. This photochrom print, dated around 1901, reflects the color process developed in Switzerland in the 1880s, which the Detroit Publishing Company used to reproduce American scenery for sale. The company compiled such prints into catalog albums, so this view was meant to show buyers what was available, and it still shows the crowds and railings that drew tourists to the park's overlooks in the early 1900s.
