Prospect Point, on the American side of the Niagara River, offers a close view of the falls across the gorge from the Canadian shore, and this photograph captures that vantage around 1909. The Detroit Publishing Company, which ran a large commercial photography operation and sold views of American scenery to travelers and postcard buyers, produced this image under catalog number 71281. Niagara was among the most visited natural sites in the country by the early twentieth century, and the company's views helped shape how the falls looked to people who never made the trip.
