Manhattan Field sat on the Harlem River in upper Manhattan, where the city's sporting grounds and the river waterfront met. This c1901 view by the photographer Underhill shows the stadium and its surroundings at the turn of the twentieth century, when organized baseball and football were drawing large crowds to such open-air fields. The print was submitted for copyright registration, which is why it survives in the Library of Congress as a record of how the riverfront looked before much of the area was rebuilt.
