Aurelia Henry Reinhardt, who went on to lead Mills College in Oakland, California, appears here in a glass negative from the National Photo Company, a Washington, D.C. studio that documented public figures and civic life in the early twentieth century. The record dates the plate to roughly 1918 to 1920, a period when women were newly gaining voting rights and entering leadership roles in higher education. The negative shows the typical wear of its age, including streaks and surface blemishes from the breakdown of its original coating.
