Few places in San Francisco carry as much age as Mission Dolores, whose adobe chapel the Spanish Franciscans completed in 1791. This half of a stereograph shows the old mission alongside the Old Mansion House, setting a Spanish-era landmark beside a building from the city's later years. The card was issued in the Gems of California Scenery series and was meant to be viewed through a stereoscope, where two slightly different images merged into one view with depth. The Library holds only this half of the pair, so the companion image is not part of this record.
