Old Ephriam, the bear named in this card's title, is caught helping himself to garbage pails set on a wagon in Yellowstone National Park. Around the turn of the twentieth century, park visitors often left food scraps where bears could reach them, and animals learned quickly that camps and dumps meant easy meals. St. Paul's Ingersoll View Company issued this stereograph around 1905, one of many scenes sold as souvenirs to be viewed through a stereoscope at home. The close vantage point shows how casually such bear encounters were presented to the public at the time.
