Tower Creek plunges over a rim toward the Yellowstone River at Tower Falls, and this print turns to the tall, fractured columns of volcanic breccia standing near the falls. It dates to 1871, when the Hayden Survey, the federal Geological and Geographical Survey of the Territories, was mapping and photographing the region. William Henry Jackson was among the survey's photographers that year. Its images helped persuade Congress to set the area aside as Yellowstone National Park in 1872.
