Wild elk graze in the meadows near Tower Falls, in the northeastern corner of Yellowstone National Park. Around 1907 the Detroit Publishing Company, a commercial firm that sold travel views to tourists and railroad passengers, was documenting the park's scenery and wildlife. This image is a large-format glass dry plate negative, 8 by 10 inches, which allowed the company to make detailed prints. Pictures like this show how wildlife was one of Yellowstone's main attractions in the early twentieth century, when visitors came hoping to see animals in the open.
