Here a small children's book, *Goody Two-Shoes*, is shown with its New York imprint from H. W. Hewet and a note that it was "illuminated with ten pictures." The story is an English moral tale for children that first appeared in London in the 1760s, following a poor girl who earns a pair of shoes and grows into a model of diligence and virtue. American publishers reprinted it for decades in cheap editions like this one. The engraving is undated, so its exact printing date is uncertain, but its place on the page shows how the tale traveled from London to New York and reached young readers there.
