This engraved piece carries the title *Goody Two-Shoes*, advertised as "illuminated with ten pictures," and was issued in New York by H.W. Hewet. The story of Margery, a poor girl who earns her first pair of shoes and grows into a model of diligence, first appeared in London in the 1760s and was long attributed to the bookseller John Newbery, who helped build children's publishing as a trade. Its appearance under a New York imprint shows how English juvenile books were reprinted and sold in America, though the record gives no date for this issue.
