Suderode Halle shows a hall in Suderode, a small spa town in the Harz mountains, where visitors in the late 1800s came for mineral waters and mountain air. The print is a photochrom, a process developed in Switzerland that built up color from several lithographic stones, each inked by hand and laid over a photographic base, which gave these views their soft, painted look. Photochrom views like this were sold widely as travel souvenirs, so the picture shows how a German health resort presented itself to visitors around 1890 to 1900.
