This glass negative shows Wilbert Robinson, whose Bain News Service caption identifies him as a Giants coach in New York. Robinson was a catcher before he joined John McGraw's staff, where he worked with the players on the bench and in practice. The Bain News Service was a New York photo agency that supplied portraits of athletes and public figures to newspapers, and this small plate reflects that working-press origin. The date is an estimate from later research by the Society for American Baseball Research's Pictorial History Committee.
