Swiss exhibitors occupied a section of the Palace of Diverse Industries on the Champ de Mars, one of the main halls of the 1889 Exposition universelle in Paris. The fair marked the centennial of the French Revolution and drew millions of visitors, and its exhibit halls were crowded with displays of manufactured goods from many countries. This albumen print, made in the decade when the process was the standard for commercial photography, shows the interior of that display space. Such views are valuable today because they record how nations arranged their products for public display at the height of the international exhibition era.
