Visitors entering the horological section of the Palace of Diverse Industries would have passed into a hall devoted to clocks, watches, and precision timekeeping. The 1889 Exposition Universelle, held on the Champ de Mars in Paris to mark the centennial of the French Revolution, drew millions of visitors and showcased manufactured goods from around the world.
