Zephyr Cove, on the eastern shore of Lake Tahoe, is the place this view names, and its caption describes a windy day on the water. The Library holds only one half of what was once a stereograph pair, the two nearly identical images that a viewer's stereoscope fused into a single three-dimensional scene. Published in the 1860s as number 674 in the *Gems of California Scenery* series, cards like this were sold to parlors eager for images of the West. Lake Tahoe was then gaining attention for its timber, much of which fed the mining boom at the Comstock Lode across the mountains.
