The Capitol and House Office Building, as this 1924 glass negative titles it, shows the congressional complex in Washington, D.C., when the House office block stood close to the Capitol dome. The National Photo Company, a commercial studio that documented the city from the early 1900s into the 1920s, made views like this for visitors, publishers and tourists. Its large glass plates recorded fine detail, though many surviving negatives have developed streaks and blemishes as their original coatings deteriorated. The title and date come from the company's notes and neighboring negatives, so both are approximate.
