Few interior views of the Capitol from this era show the building's working side, and this one records a House document room, where printed reports and bills were stored and distributed. The National Photo Company produced many views of Washington in the early twentieth century, sold as postcards and souvenir prints to visitors who wanted images of the federal city. The large glass plate, about 8 by 6 inches, shows the streaks and blemishes that come with aging emulsion. Its 1919 or 1920 date is inferred from neighboring negatives rather than confirmed.
