Bridlington's seafront promenade on the Yorkshire coast is the subject here. The catalog title uses "parade" in its older sense of a walkway for strolling, not a procession. The view is a photochrom print, a color process developed in Switzerland in the late nineteenth century that gave photographs a soft, painted look. The Detroit Publishing Company sold such views to American buyers, and this one appeared in its 1905 catalog of English scenes. Seaside promenades like this were popular with Victorian and Edwardian holidaymakers who came to take the sea air.
