The record's title pairs a promenade, given as "parade," with a coast guard station, which points to a seafront scene. It names Southwell, though a coast guard post suggests the seaside town of Southwold may be meant. Photochrom prints like this were made by a lithographic process that layered several colored stones to reproduce a photograph in color, and the Detroit Publishing Company sold such English views through its 1905 catalog. The picture dates from the 1890s and captures the Victorian habit of strolling along the front, when seaside towns drew holidaymakers for fresh air and genteel display.
