A fishing scene on the Potomac, the river that runs past Washington, D.C., anglers have used for sport and food for generations. The picture exists as a 4 by 5 inch glass negative from the National Photo Company, a Washington studio that photographed the city and its surroundings in the early twentieth century. The 1921 date is inferred from negatives in the same range rather than confirmed, and the glass shows streaks and blemishes from the slow deterioration of its original coating.
